The Boat

Ronya is a 2004 2 cabin Catalina 42 MKII with Pullman berth forward for owners stateroom.  She is a 42 foot / 12.8 meter sloop with a mast-furling mainsail and a 135% genoa headsail. She has a wing keel, so she only draws 4’10”. She had 2 owners previous to us who only used her as a day-sailer, so she got an extensive cruising refit from us after we bought her. Fortunately she already had some essential cruising facilities on board, including a diesel generator, a working fridge with a foot pump, a 2000 watt inverter, and a full bimini top.

We added 1050 watts of solar panels on top of our bimini (with extra stainless reinforcements) and a Victron Solar Controller, AIS (Automatic Identification System), Epirb (Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacon), locking companionway doors (one with an optional cat entrance!), a 12V TV with DVD, lots of galley upgrades, and upgraded the GPS with 2020 Explorer charts. We added a Rainman portable watermaker and an Engel 12V portable Freezer/Fridge, as well as upgraded the bimini top with a full enclosure (like having a florida room on your boat!) and an isinglass window (to see the sails when the bimini is up) with a velcro sunbrella cover. In 2021, we installed a brand new 16000 BTU MarinAir Air Conditioning / Heating System.

Other creature comforts we added/redid were new cushions with custom sunbrella covers in the salon and cockpit, a sunbrella helm shelf, galley racks, wooden shelving in the forward head, a shower head holder in the forward full shower, a custom (nice and firm) memory foam mattress in the forward pullman berth, and added/upgraded storage all around the boat.

Specs

The Deck

In 2019 we replaced pretty much all the running rigging, and both Doyle sails are in great shape. We also went to the best boatyard in Melbourne in 2019 and had the very best bottom paint on the market put on her, which was a 2 week process but so worth it!

Interior
